OUR COFFEE FARM

Our farm is located in Loja, Ecuador, in the parish of Olmedo, Barrio Tambará — a region known for its fertile volcanic soils, ideal climate and long-standing coffee tradition.
The farm sits between 1,700 and 2,000 meters above sea level, providing the perfect altitude for high-quality specialty coffee.

We are the third generation dedicated to coffee.
The original family farm had around 100 hectares, later divided among seven siblings. Today, my parents and I manage approximately 40 hectares, which are now undergoing recovery and modernisation.

Harvest begins between late June and early July, followed by fermentation, washing and sun-drying. Our coffee is shipped from the Port of Guayaquil to the UK, a journey that normally takes around 45 days.

LIFE ON THE FARM

Coffee is harvested once a year, but work never stops.
We maintain and renew the coffee plants, care for animals, grow vegetables and produce dairy products like cheese and dulce de leche. Most families in the area aim to live as self-sufficiently as possible.

The community is small — around 20 to 30 people, mostly older adults or people who have returned after retiring. Collaboration is essential, especially during harvest season when everyone helps each other.

The farm is 3 km from the main road. During heavy rains, landslides can leave us temporarily isolated, making horses or mules the only way through. Community support is vital for maintaining paths and sharing labour.

Fabian's passion for coffee is truly infectious! When I first met him, it was immediately clear how deeply he cares about his family's farm and the craft of coffee production. Alema is a genuine farm-to-cup experience, and I'm proud to be on this journey with him as we continue to grow and expand Alema together.
